MANILA--Drex Zamboanga is looking to make a comeback in the division where he is more well known for.

The reigning URCC bantamweight champion expressed openness on returning to the bantamweights as a One Championship fighter.

"I think any fighter in the bantamweight division is good. They are all great fighters," Zamboanga said on Wednesday.

Due to a different weight class system as an effort by One Championship to address hydration issues among athletes when cutting weight, Zamboanga, while staying at 135 pounds, debuted at the said promotion as a flyweight.

Returning to bantamweight under One means he will fight at 145.

The One bantamweight division is stacked with reigning champion Bibiano Fernandes, top ranked challenger John Lineker, number two ranked Shoko Sato, and third ranked Kevin Belingon leading the way.

For now, however, Zamboanga's goal is an opportunity to fight for a One Championship title.

"My goal is to become a world champion. I won’t be satisfied until I have reached that goal. I will do everything in my power to overcome any challenge that is put in front of me," he said.

On whether he will be challenging fellow Filipino Joshua Pacio for the flyweight gold or go after Fernandes' belt instead remains unknown, but Zamboanga, who is currently based in Bangkok with sister Denice, said that he is preparing for it.

"I’ve been training hard here in Thailand, and I can’t wait to get back in there and put on a good show for all the fans," Drex said.
