MANILA--Eumir Marcial impressed in his professional boxing debut, beating American opponent Andrew Whitfield in a four-round affair at the Shrine Expo Hall in Los Angeles on Thursday (Philippine Time).

Marcial showed activity from the get go, quickly tagging Whitfield.

Eventually, a left hook in Round 2 that forced a swelling below Whitfield's right eye made the difference as he struggled to recover from there.

All the three judges, namely Don Deverges, Ron Stevens, and Damian Walton, gave the same 40-36 scorecard in favor of Marcial, who is also gearing up for his stint in next year's Tokyo Olympics.

Despite the loss, Whitfield's young boxing career remains promising with a 3-2 record including two knockouts.
