MANILA--One Championship will open 2021 with a win-or-go-home tournament, aptly called "Grand Prix", to determine the number one contender for Angela Lee's One women's atomweight belt.

While Denice Zamboanga, the top ranked women's atomweight at One and supposedly Lee's challenger, may be a shoo-in for the Grand Prix, it is possible that two Filipinas will make the tournament if Jomary Torres gets an invite too.

Torres had a promising start to her stint at One, winning her first three fights.

However, she lost four straight afterward, casting doubts from some fans on whether she can really compete for the One Championship gold.

That is why Torres sees her upcoming match against Ritu Phogat on Friday night as an opportunity to make two statements.

First, Torres believes the Phogat fight is her best and possibly her only chance to sneak into the One Women's Atomweight Grand Prix.

"Gagawin ko muna ang lahat ng makakaya ko para makasali sa Grand Prix," she said on Tuesday during an online press conference.

Aside from possibly clinching a place in the Grand Prix, Torres also wants to prove that she really deserves to be in One Championship.

"Ipapakita ko na deserving ako na bigyan pa rin ako ng pagkakataon na lumaban sa One Championship," she further said.

Torres will face Phogat on Friday night at One: Big Bang at the Singapore Indoor Stadium, and with Phogat also being highly touted, this may decide who gets the next invite to the Grand Prix.
