EJ Obiena continues to break Philippine records in Europe |
MANILA--EJ Obiena has once again shattered the Philippine indoor pole vault record en route to a silver medal in the Orlen Indoor Cup in Lodz, Poland early Saturday (Philippine Time).
Obiena soared to a 5.86-meter leap, eclipsing the 5.8-meter soar he made two weeks ago.
Obiena ended up tied at the top with American pole vaulter Sam Kendricks, but Kendricks clinched the gold medal tiebreaker after clearing 5.86, his season best, in just one try. Obiena needed three tries to do so.
Obiena missed out on clearing 5.91 meters, while Kendricks opted to try 6.02 only to falter too.
Brazilian Thiago Braz, Obiena's longtime training partner, settled for the bronze after clearing a season best 5.8 meters.
