MANILA--Bienve Maranon has publicly expressed his desire to become part of the national team in the near future.

In a video message posted in his social media accounts on Wednesday, Maranon said that he wants to be an Azkal.

"I would like to be one of you: to be part of [the] Azkals," the Spanish-born United City striker said.

His statement came a day after his bid to attain Filipino citizenship made the congressional cut.

"I would like to say thanks to the House of Representatives, the Committee on Justice, and to all the congressmen, especially Manny Lopez, who helped me a lot," Maranon further said.

Lopez, the Manila First District representative, is among the principal authors of House Bill 8631, which seeks for Maranon's naturalization.

Maranon also expressed his gratitude to former Negros Occidental representative and Philippine Olympic Committee chairman Monico Puentevella, which he called "Filipino papa," Azkals manager Dan Palami, and to Philippine Football Federation president Nonong Araneta.

Once the naturalization process gets cleared in the Senate, which is now set to intervene after receiving the congressional approval, and in the presidential office, the 34-year-old Maranon vows to be of a solid contributor for the national team.

"I would like to help them along as much as I can and be part of Philippine football's development," he further said.
