MANILA--The hottest player in the PBA free agency has been stricken off the list.
Renowned sports agent Danny Espiritu said on Wednesday night that Vic Manuel is staying put with Alaska.
"We are almost done on a contract for Vic. In a matter of days, maybe next week, we will sign the deal," Espiritu said in the PBA website.
The development put a somehow happily ever after ending to what has been a dramatic free agency for the bruising forward.
Just as 2021 ushered in, Manuel revealed his desire to be traded after his negotiation with the Aces for a new contract bogged down.
However, the other teams, especially his three preferred destinations, NLEX, San Miguel, and Phoenix, could not strike a suitable trade package to be offered to Alaska for Manuel.
Road Warriors coach Yeng Guiao even said that the fact that they or the other teams have to give up a top player in exchange for Manuel factored in on the stalled trade talks.
Manuel's camp ultimately decided to agree on a new contract, which according to the PBA website report is a two-year, max salary deal.
