By Ivan Saldajeno

MANILA--The inaugural staging of the VisMin Super Cup is now set.

League owner Rocky Chan said on Wednesday that the new professional basketball league catering to the cagers down south will begin with a bubble right at the "Queen City of the South".

"The first leg will kick off on April 9 in Cebu City," Chan revealed in an online press conference signifying that the Games and Amusements Board has approved the sanctioning of the Super Cup as a professional league.

Six teams representing Visayas, three of which are actually based in Cebu Province, will take part in the said leg.

"The six teams will be billeted in just two hotels," Chan further said.

To formally pave the way for the bubble to take place, Cebu City councilman and Philippine basketball legend Don-Don Hontiveros said, "We're crafting an ordinance for sports bubble, and hopefully magawa namin ito at ma-approve a month before the start para ma-secure na kung ano talagang need ng sports bubble at ano ang ma-provide ng city."

He added that he is eyeing the Cebu City Coliseum to host the Visayas leg.

The said arena was the home of the MBA's Cebu Gems, where Hontiveros began his colorful professional career, and is currently the home of the MPBL's Cebu Sharks even as some PBA games were played in the said venue.

It is also the main battleground of CESAFI's basketball games.

Regarding the leg format, Chan bared, "It's a double round [robin] elimination. We will have the quarterfinals, semifinals, and the finals of the Visayas leg."

He then said that the action will shift to Zamboanga City for the Mindanao leg "around [the] end of May] with the similar format.

The leg finals, according to Chan, will be best-of-three series.

The Visayas and Mindanao champions will clash for the overall title also inside a bubble.
