MANILA—The family of PBA legend Robert Jaworski confirmed on Friday that the Philippine basketball's "Living Legend" got sick last year.

However, they reiterated that the former senator, who just turned 75 on March 8, is feeling better now despite a "non-life threatening blood abnormality" that is controlling the recovery pace.

"Last year, he was hospitalized due to a bout with pneumonia. He, however... is making good progress and is slowly moving forward," the Jaworskis said in a statement.

They then clarified that the pneumonia has nothing to do with COVID-19.

"He tested negative for COVID-19," the family further said.

They then thanked all the fans of the newly enshrined Philippine Sports Hall of Fame member who followed his stellar basketball career from his collegiate days at the University of the East to MICAA with Meralco and to the PBA with Toyota and Ginebra for the greetings, tributes, and well wishes.

"Natuwa at napaligaya po ninyo ang aming ama," the Jaworski Family continued.

They then urged, "At this time of recuperation, our family would like to request for your well wishes and prayers for our beloved father."
