Talisay bludgeons Tubigon in Super Cup opener

By Ivan Saldajeno

MANILA--Talisay set history on Friday night as the team became the first winner of the Pilipinas VisMin Super Cup, romping Tubigon, 104-66, at the Alcantara Civic Center.

The Aquastars set up the blowout after a 10-2 run late in the first quarter that opened a 28-16 cushion and never looked back from there.

Patrick Cabahug led Talisay with a vintage performance of 22 points on 9-of-16 shooting, two rebounds, one assist, and one block off the bench.

Jan Jamon added 14 points on 5-of-7 shooting and six rebounds.

Paulo Hubalde, who made the league's first ever basket on a layup at the 9:20 mark of the first quarter, only played for six and a half minutes and tallied four points in total as the starters played enough solid basketball to rack up the rout even as the bench finished the job.

Pari Llagas led the Mariners with 19 points on 9-of-13 shooting, six rebounds, four assists, and three blocks.

Joseph Marquez put up the league's first ever double-double with 13 points and 11 rebounds alongside four assists and one steal.
