MANILA--Magnolia got a needed boost in its big man rotation after acquiring Russel Escoto.
The PBA announced on Friday that Escoto will join the Hotshots through a trade with the Terrafirma Dyip, which was actually approved on Thursday.
Terrafirma did not get an active player in return, but it acquired Magnolia's second round pick for the Season 48 Draft, which is initially scheduled for 2022.
Mainly playing as backup to Mo Tautuaa, Escoto played sparingly for San Miguel last season, averaging 1.8 points, 2.9 rebounds, 0.2 assist, 0.8 block, and 0.2 steal per game in the elimination round.
Escoto was traded to the Dyip on Feb. 2 as part of the trade package that sent CJ Perez to the Beermen.

But on the eve of both Terrafirma and Magnolia's season debuts, the trade was formally consummated.
Escoto will join a Hotshots frontline still oozing with talent and potential in Jack Corpuz, Ian Sangalang, Kyle Pascual, Aris Dionisio, and grizzled veteran Rafi Reavis.
Magnolia will open its season against Phoenix on Saturday, right after Terrafirma begins its Joshua Munzon era against TNT.
