MANILA--Ian Sangalang scored the marginal basket as Magnolia held off Alaska, 84-82, to go 2-0 in the PBA Philippine Cup at the Ynares Sports Arena in Pasig.

In the nightcap of the Wednesday doubleheader, Sangalang converted a nice feed from Paul Lee just before the final buzzer as the Hotshots won back-to-back games to start the season for the first time in eight years.

With time winding down, Lee received a pass from Mark Barroca and slashed through the middle.

With Yousef Taha attempting to block his possible teardrop attempt, Lee found Sangalang wide open from underneath the dropped a pass to him for the winning layup.

Sangalang finished with 26 points, just a field goal shy of matching his career high of 28, five rebounds, two blocks, and one steal to lead Magnolia, which last started 2-0 in the 2013 Philippine Cup.

Lee added 16 points and two assists.

Taha reset his career high after leading Alaska with 20 points alongside 10 rebounds, one assist, one block, and one steal, but he committed a huge turnover down the stretch that eventually set up Sangalang's heroics.

Jeron Teng and Abu Tratter each added 10 markers with Teng completing a double-double of his own with 12 boards alongside three dimes and one swipe.
