MANILA—Arwind Santos scored the deciding basket as San Miguel spoiled an impressive outing from Greg Slaughter in his first game with NorthPort through an 88-86 win on Sunday at the Ynares Sports Arena in Pasig.

Santos scored on a jumper with only a second left to play as he bounced back from a huge blunder that could have cost the Beermen the game.

Santos was earlier called for a technical foul for second motion while and Sidney Onwubere were chasing for the loose ball with seven seconds left.

Robert Bolick scored the technical free throw that tied the game at 86-all, but Santos' game winner mattered the most in the endgame.

Kevin Ferrer tried to steal the win for the Batang Pier, but he missed on a fallaway triple at the final buzzer.

CJ Perez led SMB, which scored its second straight win after a season opening loss, with 18 points, eight rebounds, two assists, and five steals off the bench.

Santos added 17 points, five rebounds, and three blocks.

In his first game after taking the entire 2020 off, Slaughter led NorthPort, which fell to 1-2, with 23 points, 17 rebounds, and one assist.
