MANILA--TNT banked on its tough defense down the stretch to turn back Terrafirma, 86-79, as Chot Reyes won in his first game back as coach on Saturday in a PBA Philippine Cup clash at the Ynares Sports Arena in Pasig.

The Tropang Giga bucked a slow start that even saw the Dyip take a 20-17 lead through a 28-13 second quarter for a 45-33 halftime advantage.

TNT appeared to be holding on after taking an 83-71 cushion with 4:09 to play in the fourth quarter, but Terrafirma went on an 8-1 run to draw to within five, 79-84, with 2:10 left.

The Tropang Giga held the Dyip scoreless the rest of the way even as Poy Erram sealed the win with a breakaway layup.

Jayson Castro led TNT with 17 points, five rebounds, four assists, and one steal off the bench.

Erram (15 points and 11 rebounds) and Troy Rosario (14 points and 10 rebounds) each tallied double-doubles to backstop Castro.

Aldrech Ramos put up 17 markers and two boards to lead Terrafirma, who saw first round picks Joshua Munzon and James Laput held to only six points each.
