Hesed Gabo showed why he won the regular season MVP during the Mindanao leg. Chooks-to-Go Pilipinas/Pilipinas VisMin Super Cup |
MANILA--Basilan turned things around in the second half to maul Roxas, 89-70, en route to winning the Mindanao leg of the Pilipinas VisMin Super Cup in Game 2 of the conference finals at the Pagadian City Gymnasium on Monday night.
The struggles of playing back-to-back games after a 10-day rest took some toll on the Peace Riders as the Vanguards, looking to send the series to sudden death Tuesday, held a 34-32 lead at halftime.
But Basilan outscored its entire first-half output in the third quarter by dropping 35 points in the said quarter to begin pulling away for good before sealing the deal in the fourth.
Hesed Gabo, the Mindanao leg MVP, led the Peace Riders, who not just swept the best-of-three finals but also completed a full 10-0 sweep of the Mindanao leg, with 13 points, two rebounds, and three assists.
Michael Juico added 12 points on 5-of-6 shooting, six rebounds, one assist, three steals, and two blocks.
Basilan will take home PHP500,000 for winning the Mindanao title and will face Visayas leg winner Mandaue for the inaugural league title.
Leo Najorda put up 15 markers, one rebound, one assist, and one steal for the Vanguards, who will settle for the PHP100,000 runner-up prize.
