MANILA,
Philippines— For the fifth time, Creamline is in its favorite place: the
finals.
The Cool
Smashers put out an outstanding display on both ends as it thwarted Petro Gazz
in straight sets, 27-25, 25-22, 25-16, in Game 2 of the Premier Volleyball
League (PVL) Open Conference semifinals at the PCV Socio-Civic and Cultural
Center in Bacarra, Ilocos Norte Monday.
With the
win, the Rebisco-backed squad swept the Angels in the best-of-three affair and
will await the winner of the other semis clash between Choco Mucho and Chery
Tiggo in the finals slated Wednesday.
Tots Carlos
dominated again, firing 21 points on 18 hits, two aces, and a block, all while
combining with Jemma Galanza and Alyssa Valdez in keeping Petro Gazz at bay throughout the match.
Galanza
added 12 markers, while Jeanette Panaga was the other double-figure provider
with 10. Valdez started slowly before notching nine for the Cool Smashers.
Jia Morado
had a hand on 36 of the team’s 37 excellent sets.
The Tai
Bundit-mentored team asserted its might on offense with 47 hits, 11 better
than Petro Gazz’s 36. But it was its defense that hounded its opponent, denying
Petro Gazz hitters eight times while producing 64 excellent digs.
The loss
relegated the Angels to the battle for third starting Wednesday. Ria Meneses
got nine markers, even as Ces Molina and Remy Palma earned eight and seven,
respectively.
Myla Pablo, who erupted for 26 points in Game 1, was limited to just three with Creamline’s defense swarming over her all game.
