MANILA,
Philippines – Petro Gazz asserted its mastery over Choco Mucho as it issued a 25-21,
25-15, 22-25, 25-20 win to pull a win away from securing the bronze medal of
the Premier Volleyball League (PVL) Open Conference PCV Socio-Civic and
Cultural Center in Bacarra, Ilocos Norte Wednesday.
Myla Pablo
and the rest of the Angels pounced on the weary Flying Titans, playing its
seventh game in eight days, to take the win in the game marred by the
unexpected injury to Choco Mucho captain Maddie Madayag.
Madayag
suffered an injury in her knee in the fourth set with the score tied at 15-all.
She was later rushed to a nearby hospital for an MRI scan.
The Flying Titans rallied behind their fallen captain, even nabbing a 20-19 lead in the fourth after a Ponggay Garston kill. But Petro Gazz took charge from there, with Pablo drilling three of the team's final six points.
Pablo
stormed back to her usual self with 26 points, 25 on attacks, while Grethcel
Soltones fired 13 for the Angels, which had a plus-11 advantage on attacks
(55-44). Ces Molina was the third double-digit provider with 11.
Ponggay
Gaston led the Flying Titans with 18 points on 17 kills, and Kat Tolentino got
10. Madayag issued eight markers before going out.
The Angels
aims for a sweep in Game 2 scheduled Thursday.
