MANILA--Mikey Williams continues to build a strong case for the PBA Rookie of the Year honors after another explosive game for TNT in a 100-85 win over NLEX on Friday at the Don Honorio Ventura State University Gym in Bacolor, Pampanga.

Williams exploded for 36 points on 13-of-20 shooting for the Tropang Giga, who pulled away for good in the second half to bounce back from a stinging defeat against the San Miguel Beermen on Wednesday.

Williams, who also had four rebounds, three assists, and two steals, scored the most number of points for a rookie since Ray-Ray Parks dropped 39 for Blackwater on Sept. 25, 2019, against the same TNT squad.

Kib Montalbo and RR Pogoy each scored 13 markers for the Tropang Giga, who moved up to 7-1 in the standings.

TNT could formally seal its place in the Philippine Cup quarterfinals if San Miguel beats Ginebra later Friday.

Kevin Alas put up 16 points, two rebounds, three assists, and one steal for NLEX, which fell to sixth place at 4-4, lifting Rain Or Shine, 75-72 winner over Magnolia in the first game, to fifth place.
