Jarvey Gayoso was a one-man domination for the ADT. PFL |
MANILA--Jarvey Gayoso exploded in the most opportune time for the Azkals Development Team as the national team's junior squad clinched the last seat in the Copa Paulino Alcantara semifinals with a 9-0 zapping of Mendiola in the final match of the group stages on Saturday night at the PFF National Training Centre in Carmona.
The ADT could have still qualified for the knockout stages with a draw due to a superior goal difference over Mendiola due to how both teams fared defensively against fellow Group B member Kaya Iloilo in their tournament openers.
But instead, ADT went for the overkill, scoring the cup's most lopsided result so far with Gayoso even exceeding his goal total from the last PFL season.
Gayoso began the ADT's onslaught in the 16th minute when he converted a penalty off a Eric Manglapas foul on Dennis Chung inside the box.
Chung would make it 2-0 for the ADT in the 29th minute before Christian Rontini converted a header in the 34th minute for the 3-0 count.
Mar Diano joined the scoring barrage with a 36th minute strike before Gayoso hit four straight goals in the 38th, 52nd, 72nd, and 73rd minutes to complete his five-goal blast.
Sandro Reyes capped the ADT's domination with a 76th minute goal.
The ADT will face Stallion Laguna in the semifinals on Tuesday night at the said pitch.
While the ADT is not eligible to compete in AFC club competitions, it can spoil Stallion Laguna's bid to qualify for the AFC Cup or even the AFC Champions League qualifiers.
