MANILA—After barely missing the PBA Philippine Cup playoffs, Alaska is now on a good track of even clinching a spot in the Governors' Cup knockout stages early on after repulsing San Miguel, 99-94, on Friday night at the Ynares Sports Arena in Pasig.

Behind a solid game from Olu Ashaolu, the Aces moved up to 2-0 in the standings while sending the Beermen, still adjusting to life without Arwind Santos and Alex Cabagnot, to 0-2.

Just like its opening assignment against NLEX, however, SMB had a solid start, racing to a 28-25 lead at the end of the first quarter.

Alaska took charge in the next two quarters, outscoring SMB, 52-40, before holding them off in the end.

Ashaolu finished with 23 points, 13 rebounds, four assists, and one steal to lead the Aces.

Robbie Herndon added 11 points, six rebounds, two assists, and two steals.

June Mar Fajardo put up 23 markers, 15 boards, and one block for the Beermen.

Brandon Brown added 22 points, 14 rebounds, five dimes, and three steals.
