PASAY--Meralco began its campaign in the PBA Governors' Cup with a huge statement, sending Blackwater deeper into league infamy with a 98-77 blowout on Thursday at the Smart Araneta Coliseum in Quezon City.
The Bolts pulled away from the Bossing in the second quarter, dropping 32 points in the said period to break a 16-all tie at the end of the first and open a 48-38 halftime, which the former would preserve until the end.
Tony Bishop impressed in his PBA debut, leading Meralco with 28 points on 11-of-20 shooting, 13 rebounds, two assists, two steals, and three blocks.
John Pinto added 18 points, three rebounds, seven assists, and two steals off the bench.
Rashawn McCarthy put up 19 points, three rebounds, three assists, and one steal, while Jaylen Bond added 18 points, 15 rebounds, and two steals for Blackwater, which is now 0-3 in the conference and has lost its last 22 games overall.
