New-look Imus rips Bulacan in battle of MPBL charter clubs

By Ivan Saldajeno

PASAY--Imus banked on its new recruits from a fellow MPBL old-timer to edge Bulacan, 75-65, in a battle pitting two of the league's founding members in the continuation of the 2021-2022 season-opening Invitational at the Mall of Asia Arena on Saturday night.

Bringing in four players from the Batangas City Athletics, the Bandera found the needed players to backstop Ian Melencio in scoring.

But it was the defense that mattered the most for Imus.

Despite a so-so first quarter defensively, the Bandera nearly shut down the Kuyas in the next two periods, holding them to just 28 points en route to the rout.

Melencio had 15 points, three rebounds, and five assists to lead Imus.

Jhaymo Eguilos added 13 points on 6-for-8 field goals, five rebounds, five assists, one block, and two steals.

Adi Santos tallied a perfect 4-for-4 field goals for 12 markers alongside 13 boards and three dimes.

Jovit Dela Cruz went 7-of-9 from the field for 16 points alongside one rebound, one assist, two steals, and one block to lead Bulacan.
