MANILA--Less than 18 months until the Philippine women’s national football team will debut in the 2023 FIFA Women’s World Cup, senatorial candidate Gilbert "Gibo" Teodoro wants the government to pour in support for the national team.
“Our athletes in the women’s national football team deserve adequate support from the government as the team prepares for its historic World Cup games in Australia and New Zealand. Our words of support will fuel their passion, but they need financial support for their training, proper diet, and coaching staff,” Teodoro said.
Teodoro, a former Tarlac congressman, added that the government should help the women’s national football team in ensuring that they have a conducive training camp and could afford to train and prepare for ample time.
“The country’s delegates to the FIFA Women’s World Cup next year should be well-conditioned physically and mentally, and that will help in boosting the morale of our athletes as they face the strongest football teams in the world,” he said.
Teodoro also congratulates the Malditas as they finish stronger during this year’s AFC Women’s Asian Cup being in the top 4 teams in the region.
