MANILA--Many members of the Philippine sports community were shocked and saddened by the sudden passing of veteran broadcaster Boyet Sison.

It was indeed a "Black Saturday" for those who have known Sison after learning of the news about his death at age 58.

Sison is popular for being one of the hosts of the defunct sports program "Hardball" over ANC.

Sison also became a play-by-play commentator for ABSCBN Sports' NCAA coverage last decade and also did some public address announcing in the PBA and the URCC.

The former radio DJ returned to his old battleground and hosted Fastbreak with PBA legend Freddie Webb over DZMM.

He also guest-hosted some podcasts early into the COVID-19 pandemic.

Sison's last hosting gig was when he recently got to anchor a segment in TV Patrol.

He underwent surgery on his large intestine on Thursday, but two days later, he passed away.
