MANILA--Gilas Pilipinas moved to within a win from taking the Southeast Asian Games women's 5x5 basketball gold in style after tripping Singapore, 88-61 on Saturday at the Thanh Tri District Sporting Hall in Hanoi.

Gilas stifled Singapore early on, holding them to just six first quarter before further establishing the blowout with improved offense in the second and the third quarters.

Clare Castro led Gilas, which is now a win shy of completing the round robin tournament sweep, with 15 points on 5-for-6 field goals, four rebounds, and two blocks, while Janine Pontejos and Khate Castillo each added 14 points.

Jacqueline Chu led Singapore with 16 markers, two boards, two dimes, and two steals.

Gilas can clinch the gold with a win on Sunday against Malaysia, which will play host country Vietnam later Saturday for a chance to keep their own championship hopes alive.
