MANILA--Baser Amer showed his former pals at Meralco that he still has the winning touch.

Amer ripped off his former team in the end as he made the winning basket that catapulted Blackwater to a 90-89 victory in their PBA Philippine Cup game at the Smart Araneta Coliseum in Quezon City.

Amer, despite struggling all game long, scored the shot that mattered for the Bossing, a mid-range bank shot with 1.7 seconds left that saved them from the Bolts' late comeback.

Blackwater was comfortably ahead, 83-73, with 5:28 left in the game, but Meralco launched a 12-0 run led by Bong Quinto's clutch performance to put Meralco up, 85-83, with 1:54 to go.

Ato Ular finally broke the Bossing's dry spell with a putback with 48 seconds left that tied the game, but Chris Newsome scored two free throws with 32.1 seconds remaining to put the Bolts ahead again.

Blackwater opted to spare its remaining timeout and tried to retake the lead without a set play, and it worked wonders when Jvee Casio hit a booming triple that gave his team the lead again, 88-87, with 14.1 seconds to go.

Newsome appeared to have preserved Meralco's comeback after hitting a go-ahead jumper with 6.5 seconds left.

However, Amer's heroics happened as he drove into the right side of the basket and went for a fallaway shot from the baseline to win it for the Bossing.

Newsome's desperation heave from beyond halfcourt only hit the backboard as time expired.

Ular and Casio each tallied 19 points with the former grabbing 15 rebounds for the double-double to lead Blackwater, which has now won three straight games and tied Ginebra for second place in the team standings at 4-1.

Newsome put up 23 markers, six boards, and six assists for Meralco, which fell to 3-3 after absorbing its second straight loss.
