PASAY--On the day dedicated to the big boys, Magnolia showed Ginebra which has been the bigger squad the past four times they have met.
The Hotshots left the Mall of Asia Arena with the last laugh after beating the Gin Kings, 89-84, in the Father's Day edition of the Manila Clasico.
Magnolia escaped after finishing the game on a 7-2 run that broke an 82-all tie with Rome Dela Rosa, who delivered the team's first win in the PBA Philippine Cup, scoring another dagger three to silence the pro-Ginebra crowd at the jam-packed arena.
Ian Sangalang made 24 points on 11-of-17 shooting, nine rebounds, one assist, and two blocks for the Hotshots, who went 2-1 in their "killer" stretch playing three games in five nights even as they beat the Gin Kings for the fourth straight time.
Jio Jalalon added 19 points, four rebounds, six assists, and three steals as they survived despite losing Calvin Abueva to cumulative technical fouls.
Abueva, however, was seen quickly leaving the venue after his ejection.
LA Tenorio made 15 points, three assists, and one steal off the bench, while Scottie added 13 points, eight rebounds, five assists, one steal, and one block and Christian Standhardinger contributed 12 points, 10 rebounds, three assists, and two blocks for the Gin Kings, who lost for the first time this season after a 2-0 start.
Prince Caperal went for a perfect 4-for-4 from the field for 11 points with one rebound and one block.
