PARANAQUE--The MPBL has formally forged an agreement with sports betting app OKBet to become the league's official partner for the ongoing fourth season.

In a special event at the Okada Manila Grand Ballroom on Sunday, the Philippines' top regional basketball league now is joining forces to promote the ongoing tournament pitting 22 teams from across the country.

OKBet vice president for marketing and business development Robert Chen sees this partnership as a means to strengthen Philippine basketball.

"Many consider this sport as a way of nurturing good sportsmanship and companionship among young aspirants, so we want to contribute to its development," Chen said. "We see the value of partnering with MPBL and we want to empower our athletes to help them realize and reach their full potential. This is our way of supporting the growth of future world-class Filipino sports champions."

For his part, MPBL commissioner Kenneth Duremdes said, "Through this partnership with OKBet, we are making a big comeback to showcase the best city and provincial basketball teams in the country. The goal of our founder, Senator Manny Pacquiao, is not just to provide opportunities for our players but give Filipino basketball fans quality entertainment and a source of inspiration during these challenging times."

Despite his league partnering with a sports betting service provider for this season, Duremdes assured that game-fixing remains a red flag in the MPBL.

According to him, "The league also works with other entities and relevant government agencies like the Games and Amusements Board to help in ensuring the integrity of the games."
