PARAÑAQUE—TNT banked on the heroics of longtime leader Jayson Castro and some endgame luck to take an 86-83 win against Converge in their PBA Philippine Cup battle at the Ynares Center in Antipolo.

Castro scored a runner with 2.9 seconds left as the Tropang Giga stole the win from the FiberXers, who thought they got saved again by another clutch performance from RK Ilagan.

Ilagan scored a pull-up jumper with 22.9 seconds left to push Converge ahead, 83-82.

The team then forced TNT to a five-second inbound violation even as they were able to milk a lot of seconds before Ilagan was sent to the free throw line.

However, Ilagan missed both his free throws, and Castro quickly raced to the other side of the court for his go-ahead basket.

Maverick Ahanmisi failed to control the inbound pass, leading to another FiberXers turnover, and JJ Alejandro essentially sealed the win with two free throws with a second left.

Ahanmisi's desperation heave from three-fourths length of the court at the final buzzer was way too short.

Castro finished with 17 points, four rebounds, three assists, one steal, and two blocks for the Tropang Giga, who moved up to 2-1 in the standings.

Glenn Khobuntin added 15 points, eight rebounds, one assist, and one steal.

Troy Rosario put up a double-double of 13 points and the same number of rebounds with one dime.

Mike Tolomia had 17 points, three rebounds, and one assist for the FiberXers, who fell to 1-2.
