SAN JUAN, MM--La Salle banked on its trademark Pumaren style of defense to take down Far Eastern University, 65-49, in a FilOil EcoOil Preseason Cup opening day action on Saturday at the FilOil EcoOil Centre.
The Green Archers quickly went to work on the defensive end, keeping the Tamaraws scoreless for the first four minutes of the match and conceding just eight first-quarter points.
La Salle then held FEU scoreless again for the first three minutes of the second quarter, but the latter caught fire later in the second and kept itself close even in the first few minutes of the third.
However, the Green Archers pulled away later in the third and shut down the Tamaraws in the end once again with their tight defense.
Bright Nwankwo led La Salle with 14 points on 7-of-9 shooting and seven rebounds off the bench.
