CARMONA—Stallion Laguna had a hard time to breach past Mendiola's tough defense but eventually struck in the second half to open its PFL campaign with a 2-0 victory on Monday night at the PFF National Training Centre.

What was somehow expected to be a cruise control by Stallion Laguna especially after acquiring Hamed Hajimahdi through free agency turned out to be a grind-out one as Mendiola played superb defense to keep the boys from the neighboring city of Biñan at bay in the first half.

In the second half, however, Stallion Laguna found the net twice.

Kai Bailey put Stallion Laguna ahead in the 48th minute after Abou Sy gave him an extra pass inside the box off a Finn McDaniel cross.

Substitute Rafa Nogueda then finished the job for Stallion Laguna after converting a Justin Peña corner into an 87th minute header goal.

Stallion Laguna joins opening night winners Kaya-Iloilo and United Clark on top of the league table after the opening weekend, but with the goal difference to be considered, Stallion Laguna is in second behind United Clark.
