MANILA--NorthPort has also shaken up its coaching staff.
Dugout Philippines has learned that Bonnie Tan will become the team's new head coach for the PBA Governors' Cup.
First reported by Manila Bulletin's Reynald Magallon and later confirmed by a person privy to the situation, Tan will be switching places with Pido Jarencio at the Batang Pier camp with Jarencio now taking the role of team manager.
Tan has yet to respond to Dugout Philippines' inquiry as of posting.
Tan is fresh from giving Letran its third consecutive NCAA men's basketball title last Christmas, but speculations began to arise even before the championship conquest that it could be his swan song for the collegiate team.
Tan is essentially not new into coaching a PBA team as he took over the Batang Pier's reins for three games in the 2021 Philippine Cup bubble in Bacolor, Pampanga when Jarencio entered the league's health and safety protocols.
Tan won all the three games where he was the acting coach.
Once it becomes official, Tan will handle what could be the most talented NorthPort lineup ever on paper with Arvin Tolentino, Robert Bolick, Roi Sumang, William Navarro, and Joshua Munzon as the main men.
Navarro, though, will sit out the season-ending conference after suffering an ACL injury.
