QUEZON CITY—It is official!

Carmelo Anthony has been formally named the third global ambassador for the FIBA World Cup.

FIBA made the announcement on Friday, although the former NBA superstar will be formally introduced to the Filipino media in a special event at the Smart Araneta Coliseum here later in the day.

Anthony arrived in the Philippines on Wednesday night to do some FIBA World Cup-related activities before his formal introduction.

Anthony joins fellow former NBA stars Luis Scola and Pau Gasol as the FIBA WC global ambassadors.

"It's all about striking a perfect balance of personnel, talent and having that great chemistry. I'm looking forward to supporting all the players at the World Cup this year and celebrating the sport on a global scale," Anthony said about what it takes to winning the FIBA World Cup.

According to FIBA, Anthony, a three-time Olympic gold medalist, will be in attendance when Gilas Pilipinas battles Lebanon in the sixth window of the FIBA World Cup Qualifiers at the Philippine Arena in Bocaue later Friday.
