PASIG--Team Scottie made a huge surprise in the PBA All-Star Draft after going with Christian Standhardinger as the first pick of the said event on Monday night at the TV5 Studio in Mandaluyong.

Scottie Thompson and coach Yeng Guiao brought in Standhardinger first instead of the more anticipated June Mar Fajardo.

Fajardo, the top vote-getter in the first All-Star balloting return before getting overtaken, was drafted by the same guy who overtook him, Japeth Aguilar.

Later in the draft, the two All-Star squads were shaping up to be mainly consisted of other stars from the respective collegiate leagues Thompson and Aguilar once belonged.

Thompson, whose jersey was recently retired by Perpetual Help, drafted former NCAA stars CJ Perez, Calvin Abueva, Robert Bolick, Kevin Alas, and Jayson Castro later in the proceedings.

Aguilar, on the other hand, chose fellow former Ateneo stars Chris Newsome, LA Tenorio, and Gian Mamuyac as well as fellow UAAP alumni Jamie Malonzo, RR Pogoy, Paul Lee, and Terrence Romeo.

Aguilar, though, spoiled Thompson's hopes of bringing the NCAA stars to his squad the former drafted Arellano alumnus John Pinto.

Thompson, however, also infused some UAAP blood to his team with Arvin Tolentino, Mark Barroca, and James Yap.

Marcio Lassiter was also drafted to Team Scottie, while Mikey Williams and Jeremiah Gray went to Team Japeth.

Guiao ended up with Team Scottie after a coin toss, while coach Tim Cone went to Team Japeth.
