Jaja Santiago, Saitama wallops Denso in Japan V.League

MANILA—Jaja Santiago and the Saitama Ageo Medics cruised to a 27-25, 25-19, 25-19 straight-set victory over the Denso Airybees in the 2022-2023 Japan V.League women’s volleyball on Sunday at the Kurobe City General Sports Center.

The former National University Lady Bulldogs star tallied seven points on six kills and a block as the Ageo Medics scored their fifth consecutive victory for a 17-6 win-loss record.

More importantly, Santiago remained tied with Thai middle blocker Thatdao Nuekjang of JT Marvelous for top blocker honors in the league with an average of 0.71 rejections per set.

Santiago, who was mulling to play for the Japanese women’s volleyball team, is also second in the V.League with an attack rate of 47.9 percent.

Yuka Sato led the way for the Ageo Medics with 11 points built on 10 kills and Serbian import Sara Lozo put up 17 points on 12 attacks, three aces, and two blocks. 

The Ageo Medics will return to action next Saturday against the Okayama Seagulls.
