MANILA—Jamie Malonzo came out firing on Friday night as Ginebra spoiled the return of Robert Bolick and Kevin Murphy's NorthPort debut with a 115-100 win in their PBA Governors' Cup battle at the SM Mall of Asia Arena in Pasay.
Malonzo finished with 28 points on 10-for-17 shooting, 10 rebounds, four assists, and four blocks, but more importantly, the Gin Kings pulled away in the final three quarters, outscoring the Batang Pier, 100-75, after they were held to just 15 in the first quarter.
Justin Brownlee finished with a triple-double of 22 points, 15 rebounds, and 12 assists with three steals for Ginebra, which remained undefeated at 3-0 ahead of a grudge match against sister team-slash-archrival Magnolia on Sunday night also at the MOA Arena.
Murphy made 38 points, 11 rebounds, four assists, two steals, and one block for NorthPort, but he went 16-for-41 from the field as his team fell to the bottom of the team standings at 0-5.
Bolick, who re-signed with the team for the rest of the conference, added 30 points, five rebounds, three assists, and one steal off the bench.
