MANILA—Cignal HD Spikers snapped their losing spell in the Premier Volleyball League All-Filipino Conference with a 25-23, 25-20, 25-14 victory over Akari Power Chargers on Valentine’s Day Tuesday at the Smart Araneta Coliseum in Quezon City.
Rachel Anne Daquis came out smoking and fired 11 points in a rare top-scoring performance for the HD Spikers, which wrapped up the hard-earned victory in one hour and 38 minutes.
Gel Cayuna finished with 21 excellent sets on top of four points, Roselyn Doria chipped in nine points, Frances Molina contributed eight markers, while Marivic Meneses, Glaudine Trongcoso and Toni Rose Basas combined for 20 points for Cignal, now 1-2.
“Siempre, una sa lahat, nagpapasalamat kami kay Lord. Kahit na may mga challenges na na-experience naming, ‘di pa rin Siya tumitigil na tulungan tayong lahat,” said Cignal coach Shaq delos Santos.
“Sobrang proud and happy kasi slowly nakakabalik na din kami sa galaw at performance naming. Hopefully ito na un sign na magtuloy-tuloy uli. We trained everyday before this game at Nakita naming yung progression at ung confidence ng mga players,” he added.
Dindin-Santiago Manabat came away with 11 points but failed to draw solid back with Janine Marciano scoring seven points and Chiara Permentilla finishing with five markers for the Chargers, who absorbed their third straight-set defeat.
