Wayne Selden flies in to replace Jonathon Simmons as NLEX import

PASIG—Help will quickly come for NLEX with Jonathon Simmons returning to China.

Coach Frankie Lim confirmed on Wednesday night that Wayne Selden will replace Simmons as the team's import for the rest of the PBA Governors' Cup.

Selden went undrafted in the 2016 NBA Draft despite playing a stellar role for Kansas in the US NCAA, but he worked his way up to become one of Memphis' unsung heroes during the late 2010s. He also played for New Orleans, Chicago, and New York.

The 28-year-old guard, listed at six-feet-four, embarked on a journeyman career in Europe—with a brief NBA return with the Knicks in between—before signing with the Road Warriors.

"Just like Simms, Wayne is an NBA player, so you can also expect a lot from him," Lim said.

Simmons, however, jokingly added, "He hopes he's better than me."

Selden is expected to arrive on Thursday, which means he could already be in the Philippines when NLEX faces off with Phoenix on Saturday night at the Ynares Center in Antipolo, which will be Simmons' final game as a Road Warrior at least this season.

Simmons will be flying to China the day after his PBA swan song to rejoin the Chinese Basketball Association.
