QUEZON CITY—Caloy Yulo is back as the king of the floor exercise after winning the gold medal in the Doha leg of the FIG Artistic Gymnastics World Cup series on Friday night.
Yulo, who has been calling the floor his pet event, tallied 14.833 points, way ahead of silver medalist Kazuki Minami of Japan, who finished with 14.2, and bronze medalist Luke Whitehouse of Great Britain, who tallied 13.966.
Yulo began his routine with a 2.5 twist to front double pike.
He also did a triple full side pass and a 1.5 twist to Randi before finishing off with three and a half twists.
This is Yulo's second World Cup medal this year after taking the parallel bars bronze in the Cottbus leg last week.
Israeli gymnast Artem Dolgopyat, the floor champion in Cottbus, actually topped the qualifying phase in Doha, but he begged off from playing in the final.
