MANILA—University of Santo Tomas added another weapon to its arsenal after it secured the commitment of Filipino-Canadian winger Gabriel Obusan.

UST head coach Pido Jarencio said that the 6-foot-4 gunner will play a key role in Growling Tigers' bid to have a strong bounce back season in UAAP Season 86.

"Malaking tulong si Obusan sa atin. Malaki ang katawan na kayang makipagbakbakan sa loob at may tira din sa labas. Bagay na bagay siya sa sistemang pinapatakbo natin sa UST," Jarencio said.

Obusan was impressive during the recent 2023 Smart-NBTC National Finals where he averaged 13.7 points, 4.7 rebounds, 3.3 assists, and 1.0 steal for Toronto.

Obusan, for his part, said that he did not think twice of committing to the Growling Tigers as the school and future teammates welcomed him with open arms.

"I've seen a lot of schools in the UAAP and UST made me feel like a family. I love the people here, I like the way we work here and it really makes me a better player," Obusan said.

"I just want to make an impact so we can win some games in the UAAP," added the incoming UST rookie.

The 18-year-old Obusan graduated from St. Martin's Catholic School in Mississauga, Ontario and will have the whole five years of eligibility with the Growling Tigers.
