MANILA—Gilas Pilipinas failed to clinch a spot in the FIBA 3x3 Asia Cup men's quarterfinals after dropping its two pool stage assignments on Friday at the OCBC Square in Singapore.
Gilas, ranked 19th in the world in the latest FIBA 3x3 rankings, found themselves losing to world number 58 Iran and number 27 Qatar in the preliminary phase.
Gilas blew an 11-7 lead in their first assignment as the Iranians took advantage of their foul trouble in the end to steal a 14-11 win.
Souley Ndour then showed Gilas the door as he scored Qatar's last three points to seal a 21-18 win.
The early exit was a far cry from Gilas' Cinderella run last year where they would finish in fourth place.
Iran would stun Qatar to take the top seed in Pool D.
