MANILA—John Amores’ basketball career redemption continues as he has been signed by the Muntinlupa Cagers ahead of the 2023 Maharlika Pilipinas Basketball League season.
The Cagers announced on Thursday evening the signing of the controversial Jose Rizal University Heavy Bombers forward less than a year after being involved in a fight in the NCAA.
“Nalugmok. Bumangon. Nagpapatuloy sa pangarap. Ating salubungin at bigyan ng mainit na pagtanggap ang lalong magpapalakas at bagong magbabandera ng Muntinlupa!” the Cagers wrote in their Facebook page.
Amores came from a stint with the Zamboanga Valientes in the ASEAN Basketball League and the Pilipinas VisMin Super Cup where he was not involved in any on-court fracas.
Amores helped Zamboanga win it all in the VisMin Super Cup earlier this month
Amores had a forgetful NCAA season with JRU last year where he was involved in a melee where he punched several members of the College of St. Benilde Blazers. Amores was then dismissed by the Heavy Bombers from their squad.
Prior to that, Amores was also involved in an on-court fight with University of the Philippines Fighting Maroons forward Mark Belmonte in a pre-season tournament.
