SJ Moore has been formally welcomed to UST. |
MANILA—The University of Santo Tomas has bolstered its guard rotation with the commitment of high school sensation SJ Moore on Friday.
The Baclayon, Bohol-native Moore opted to move to the Growling Tigers for college as he sees his style of play fit with the system of returning head coach Pido Jarencio.
"Sa UST ko nakita na bagay talaga ako. Nakikita kong mas magagamit ako dito at mas gagaling ako kaya excited ako maging part dito sa UST," Moore said in a press conference at Mandarin Sky Restaurant.
The arrival of the 6-foot-2 high-flyer is a huge boost to the Growling Tigers, according to Jarencio, as they aim to recover from a dismal 1-13 campaign last season.
"Alam natin yung kalibre ni SJ at nakikita natin siya na future ng UST. Masayang masaya tayo na pinili niyang sumama sa atin dito," said Jarencio, who welcomed Moore with team managers Waiyip Chong and Eric Ang.
The 19-year-old Moore had solid averages of 19.0 points, 8.6 rebounds, 1.4 steals, 1.3 assists, and 1.3 blocks for the Arellano Braves in NCAA Season 98 juniors basketball.
Moore will have five years of eligibility for the Growling Tigers and can play immediately in the upcoming UAAP Season 86 tournament.
