UBL: JRU wins twice in 1 day

CALOOCAN—Jose Rizal University barely showed signs of fatigue even after playing two games in a day.

Led by William Sy, the Bombers pulled off contrasting victories over Hustle DMC and Paragon to continue their good showing in the 21-under of the United Basketball League at the Systems Plus Computer College gym.

Sy had 14 points, three rebounds and three assists as the Bombers edged Hustle, 69-65, then picked up from where he left off and played a much better, all-around game while leading his squad to an 80-54 demolition of Paragon.

Against Paragon, Sy ended up with 14 points, seven rebounds, and six assists.

Also winning was Microsmith, which gave Mighty Warriors a sound beating, 86-39, in the 16-under category.

Irus Chua rediscovered his shooting form and fired 25 points, including five three-point shots, while also dishing out nine assists for Microsmith, which also got balance production from the other players.

Guillan Quines tallied 18 markers and six rebounds while Kyn Vicente had a double-double performance of 10 points and 10 rebounds to go along with seven steals for Microsmith.

Other teams which pulled off separate wins were MBC (14-under), Dauntless J (16-under), SPCC (19-under), Manila Braves (13-under), WCA Carabaos (19-under), and Philippine Christian University-Wang’s (21-under).

MBC relied on Mark Henry Cassimero to nip Passion, 47-44.

Khyle Sy wound up with a double-double performance of 17 points and 14 rebounds as Dauntless J outplayed MBC, 70-61.

Host school SPCC relied on Joshua Russell and Joshua Vargas, who combined for 39 points in leading their team to a thrilling 61-60 squeaker of National University Bullpups.

Manila Braves overpowered Dauntless J, 82-63, with Mario Gonzalvo coming away with his own double-double showing of 20 points and 13 boards.

WCA Carabaos trounced Madcats, 93-64 as Heven Magtibay scored 22 points in just 17 minutes of playing time.

PCU completed the day of victors by pulling off a tough 61-55 triumph over WCA Carabaos, as RJ Santiago played an efficient game, hitting 8-of-11 shots from the field to end up with 23 markers.
