MANILA—Kaya-Iloilo retook the top spot in the PFL table after surviving a scare from the Azkals Development Team for a 3-2 win on Saturday night at the Rizal Memorial Stadium.

A second-half brace from Daizo Horikoshi was enough as Kaya-Iloilo overtook Dynamic Herb Cebu in the title race ahead of their potential championship decider.

The sons of basketball legends took center stage in the first half as Jarvey Gayoso netted first for Kaya-Iloilo only for Andres Aldeguer to answer back moments later to force a deadlock.

Gayoso, the son of former PBA star Jayvee, put Kaya-Iloilo in front in the 18th minute after receiving the ball from the top of the box and drove to the left flank to find an opening for his goal.

The son of former UAAP star Dino Aldeguer, however, equalized in the 22nd minute as he received a feed from Dennis Chung and slotted a close-range goal in.

Just twenty-five seconds into the second half, though, Jhan-Jhan Melliza took advantage of a passing blunder and found Horikoshi wide open at the other side for the go-ahead goal for Kaya-Iloilo.

Horikoshi completed his brace in the 55th minute after Milan Meghandom found him wide open but still onside for the through-ball feed to make it 3-1.

Cholo Bugas gave Kaya-Iloilo a scare as he netted a goal in the 69th minute to cut the lead down to one, but the ADT could not follow up on Bugas' goal.

Kaya-Iloilo is now on 45 points after 18 matches, just two ahead of Cebu for first place with an April 23 showdown at the Dynamic Herb Stadium in Talisay City looming.
