MANILA—Alfred Roque played the hero role by leading the University of Perpetual Help Altas to an epic comeback against the Jose Rizal University Heavy Bombers, winning, 80-78, in the 2023 Filoil EcoOil Preseason Cup at the Filoil EcoOil Centre in San Juan City, Sunday.

The Altas fell into a deep 20-point deficit in the second quarter before uncorking a run bridging the third and fourth quarters to come as close as two points, 69-71.

This was when Roque displayed his heroics as he contributed five points in Perpetual's 7-0 run in the fourth that allowed them to seize the lead, 76-71, and eventually win the game.

"This was a very good game for us against JRU. Marami kaming natutunan. Nakita ko yung composure. Hindi kami bumitaw. We're on the right track," said Altas head coach Myk Saguiguit.

Roque had a brilliant all-around game with 24 points, four rebounds, two assists, and two steals as Perpetual extended their lead in the standings in Group A with a 5-1 record.
