Philippine
Women’s University and ICCT Colleges picked up their fourth straight wins in their
respective divisions to open the second round of the Inter-Scholastic Athletic
Association (ISAA) Season 14 volleyball tournament eliminations Tuesday at the Manila Adventist
College gym.
The
Patriots dropped a set for the first time this season, but it hardly mattered as
it whipped the WCC ATC Skyhawks, 25-12, 21-25, 25-14, 25-13, to maintain its
hold on the men’s leaderboard with a 4-0 record.
ICCT Colleges, on the
other hand, remained atop the women’s division standings but had to fend off a
spirited uprising by the WCC ATC Lady Skyhawks in a 25-21, 25-23, 25-16
victory.
University
of Asia and the Pacific then proceeded to score contrasting wins against the
hosts MAC in both divisions to pad their records.
The Lady
Dragons needed just an hour and 19 minutes to dispatch the Lady Angels, 25-20,
25-19, 25-19, and tie WCC at an even 2-2 record. The loss was MAC’s fourth
consecutive this season.
The Dragons, however, had to crawl back from a 0-2 set deficit to fashion out a nail-biting 23-25, 25-27, 25-15, 26-24, 15-5 win over the Soaring Angels in the match that lasted almost two hours.
The Pasig-based squad remained in second place with a 3-1 slate, while keeping MAC winless at 0-4.
UA&P
will once again host volleyball festivities on Thursday, June 1. MAC will meet
WCC in the men’s division at 9 am, followed by the MAC-WCC women’s tussle at
10:30 am.
ICCT will
then trade hits with UA&P in the women’s side at 12nn before PWU and
UA&P finish it up in a mouth-watering men’s match-up at 1:30 pm.
