La
Consolacion College- Manila and the debuting WCC Aeronautical & Technological
College made their presence felt with convincing victories against separate
opponents to open festivities of the Inter-Scholastic Athletic Association
(ISAA) Season 14 basketball tournament at the Treston International College gym
in Taguig City, May 5.
The three-peat-seeking
Blue Royals started their title defense emphatically, waxing hot right from the
opening tip to churn out an 89-73 win over the ICCT Colleges Blue Dragons.
The
Skyhawks, one of two new teams joining the league this season, used torrid shooting and
tenacious defense in the second half to tame the hosts Treston Golden Lions,
68-53, in the first game.
In the
other seniors’ game, Season 11 semifinalists Philippine Women’s University
(PWU) Patriots shrugged off a stubborn stand by newcomers the University of Asia
and the Pacific (UA&P) Dragons, 51-46. Treston avenged their seniors with a 78-73
victory over Airlink International Aviation College in the lone juniors’
match-up.
Hoops action will resume on Sunday at the Trinity University of Asia campus in Quezon City. UA&P and Airlink square off at 9 am, followed by the tussle between ICCT and WCC at 10:30 am. La Consolacion College meets PWU at noon, before capping off the day with the juniors’ game between LCCM and Immaculada Concepcion College (ICC) at 1:30 pm.
Back from a three-year absence due to the Covid-19 pandemic, the 14th season of the league will feature 12 teams with the theme “Moving On, Stronger Together.” Other teams competing in this edition are last season’s bronze medallists PATTS College of Aeronautics, FEATI University, Trinity University of Asia, Manila Adventist College, and Immaculada Concepcion College. Manila Tytana Colleges (MTC) will be skipping this season.
