La Consolacion College Manila is in another familiar territory, while WCC Aeronautical and Technological College lived to fight for another day in the semifinal round of the Inter-Scholastic Athletic Association (ISAA) Season 14 basketball tournament Wednesday at the LCCM gym in Manila.
The
reigning champions Blue Royals wasted no time in waylaying the fourth-seeded
Treston College Golden Lions, 104-79, to move a step closer to a chance of a
three-peat.
The hosts
fired a telling 28-8 run in the first quarter while posting several 20-point
leads throughout the match, the biggest of which at 91-62 with less than four
minutes left in the final period.
Meanwhile,
the Blue Skyhawks survived yet another nip-and-tuck affair with ICCT Colleges but gained the upper hand in the fourth quarter to carve out a morale-boosting 77-71
victory and negate the Blue Dragons’ twice-to-beat advantage.
The South Caloocan squad took control in the final 10 minutes, turning a slim 57-56 third-quarter lead into a 72-61 bubble in the final five minutes of the match en
route to victory.
In the juniors' side, LCCM remained unbeaten and assured of a spot in the championship round with a 77-59 rout of Treston Golden Cubs.
The
do-or-die match for the last finals ticket will be played on Friday also at the
LCCM gym. Game 1 of the finals will start Sunday at the Trinity University of
Asia gym.

VOLLEYBALL: PWU MEN, ICCT WOMEN REMAIN UNSCATHED
Philippine
Women’s Univeristy and ICCT Colleges kept their winning runs intact at the
resumption of the ISAA Season 14 volleyball competitions May 23 at the Manila
Adventist College gym in Pasay City.
The
Patriots made it 2-0 in the men’s side with a comfortable 25-19, 25-17, 25-15 win
over University of Asia and the Pacific Dragons, a great follow-up to its
masterful straight-sets win over WCC on opening day.
On the other
hand, the Lady Blue Dragons recovered from a 1-2 set deficit to waylay the
UA&P Lady Dragons in a five-set thriller, 25-21, 21-25, 17-25, 25-12,
15-13, to likewise lead the women’s side with back-to-back victories.
Both UA&P squads fall to an even 1-1 card.
WCC North
Manila then proceeded to sweep the hosts MAC in both divisions to bounce back
from their opening-day defeats.
The
Skyhawks only needed three sets to gore the Soaring Angels, 25-17, 25-22, 25-21.
Their female counterparts then proceeded to battle back from a two-set
disadvantage for a 19-25, 20-25, 25-18, 25-17, 15-10 escape act over the Lady
Angels.
Games will now shift to the UA&P gym on May 25 with another four-game special. MAC will
meet PWU in the men’s draw at 8:30 am, while ICCT Colleges hopes to make it three-for-three
as it takes on MAC in the women’s side at 10 am.
WCC will then cross paths with host school UA&P on both women’s and men’s sides at 11:30 am and 1 pm, respectively.
