NLEX waives JR QuiƱahan amid 'ligang labas' mess

By Ivan Saldajeno

PASAY—NLEX has let go of JR QuiƱahan.

In a statement on Saturday, the team announced that it terminated the burly stretch center's current contract after investigating his participation in "ligang labas" games.

"Following a thorough investigation, it was found that QuiƱahan had committed several infractions of his Uniform Players’ Contract, including, among others, playing in unsanctioned games without seeking clearance from NLEX management and the Philippine Basketball Association," the Road Warriors said.

According to PBA rules, players invited to ligang labas games must seek clearance from their mother teams, or else, they would be fined at least PHP50,000 depending on the number of offenses they have already committed.

The league slapped the six-foot-six Cebuano star with the said fine for his participation in a ligang labas game in Catmon, Cebu, but an additional PHP20,000 fine was meted too for instigating a brawl during the game in question.

With him sent to the waiver wires, QuiƱahan, who will turn 39 on Monday, is now a free agent and can be signed by any team needing his services.

"The NLEX Road Warriors thank Quinahan for his services to the team and wish him luck in his future endeavors," the statement concluded.
