BATANGAS CITY—Valenzuela finally broke through the win column in the MPBL after taking down slumping Rizal, 85-80, on Tuesday night at the Batangas City Sports Coliseum.

The Classic came alive in the fourth quarter and eventually pulled away in the final two minutes to beat the Golden Coolers, who were still reeling from a tough loss on Thursday night against the Pasay Voyagers marred by a controversy surrounding a late basket by Dhon Reverente.

Michael Macion led Valenzuela, which finally snapped a 0-7 start to the year, with 19 points, six rebounds, and one steal.

Darell Manliguez came close to a triple-double with 13 points, eight rebounds, and nine assists alongside one steal.

Edgar Charcos fired 22 points, two rebounds, five assists, and five steals to lead Rizal, which fell to 2-7.
